Description

Pepto-Bismol 17.5mg/ml Oral Suspension contains bismuth subsalicylate for short-term relief of heartburn, indigestion, nausea and upset stomach, and to control diarrhoea.

It is for adults and young people aged 16 years and over and is supplied with a dosing cup.

How to use

Adults and young people aged 16 years and over: shake the bottle well and take 30ml using the dosing cup. If needed, repeat every 30 to 60 minutes. Do not take more than 8 doses in 24 hours or use for more than 2 days.

Active ingredients

Active ingredient: bismuth subsalicylate 17.5mg/ml; each 30ml dose contains 525mg. Also contains aluminium magnesium silicate, methylcellulose, gellan gum, methyl salicylate, sucralose, salicylic acid, sodium salicylate, amaranth (E123), sorbic acid, benzoic acid (E210) and purified water.

Suitable for

Adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over with occasional heartburn, indigestion, nausea, upset stomach or diarrhoea.

Storage

Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of the sight and reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.

Warnings

Do not use under 16 years, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Do not use if you are allergic to bismuth subsalicylate, aspirin, salicylates or any ingredient, or if you have a stomach ulcer, a blood-clotting disorder or bloody/black stools. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have gout or diabetes, or take anticoagulants, methotrexate, tetracycline antibiotics, diabetes medicines or other salicylates. Do not exceed 8 doses in 24 hours or use for more than 2 days. Seek urgent advice for severe diarrhoea with a high temperature or stomach pain, or blood or mucus in the stool. Stop and seek advice if symptoms persist or worsen or you develop ringing in the ears. Temporary darkening of the tongue or stools can occur and is usually harmless.
