Procters Weight Management Clinic
Private, face-to-face support for adults who need help managing their weight. Speak with a trained weight management expert about your health, current medicines and goals, and explore which approach may be suitable for you.
What is the Procters Weight Management Programme?
Our private weight management programme provides an individual clinical assessment, lifestyle advice and ongoing review where appropriate.
Your consultation takes place in a private consultation room with a pharmacist independent prescriber. They will review your health and medical history, discuss your previous experiences of managing your weight, and take measurements to help assess your needs.
Together, you will discuss the options available and whether this service is suitable for you. The outcome may be advice and support, further investigations, referral to another healthcare professional, or an individual treatment plan where clinically appropriate.
A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
A prescription will only be issued if the prescriber considers treatment appropriate following an individual clinical assessment. Treatment may be declined or postponed if further information, investigations or another form of care is needed.
Who may be suitable?
The service is for adults aged 18 or over.
As a general guide, assessment for weight-management treatment may be appropriate for people with:
- A body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above
- A BMI of 27 to below 30 together with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea or type 2 diabetes
BMI is only one part of the assessment. Your pharmacist will also consider your medical history, current medicines, previous treatment, lifestyle and any factors that could affect your care.
Meeting a BMI threshold does not mean that treatment will be suitable.
Support with everyday changes
Your care includes discussion of eating habits, physical activity and practical changes that fit your circumstances.
Where appropriate, the pharmacist can direct you to additional resources or other services for further support.
Any treatment plan should support appropriate lifestyle changes. Your goals and progress will be reviewed with you without promising a particular amount or speed of weight loss.
How the programme works
Arrange a consultation
Contact our Heathfield High Street pharmacy by telephone, email or visit the pharmacy in person to arrange an appointment.
Consultations are currently held on Mondays and must be booked in advance.
The team will explain the service, what to bring and any applicable consultation or ongoing-care charges before your appointment.
Attend your clinical assessment
Allow approximately 20 minutes for your first appointment, with additional time where needed.
The pharmacist will review your medical history and medicines, discuss your goals, and take relevant measurements including height, weight and BMI.
The assessment may also include waist circumference and body composition measurements.
Further information or investigations may be needed before a decision can be made.
Agree the next steps
The pharmacist will discuss the options appropriate for your circumstances, including lifestyle support and whether another service or further assessment would be more suitable.
If treatment is recommended, you will discuss its potential benefits, risks, alternatives and monitoring requirements before deciding whether to proceed.
Any prescribed medicine will be subject to the pharmacy's usual clinical and dispensing checks before supply.
Return for review
Where an ongoing plan is agreed, follow-up consultations will usually take place monthly.
Reviews assess your progress, changes in your health, any side effects and whether the plan remains appropriate.
Treatment may be adjusted, paused or stopped when clinically indicated.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes. This is an appointment-only service at Heathfield High Street, with consultations currently held on Mondays. You can telephone or visit the pharmacy to arrange an appointment.
Is this an NHS service?
No. This is a privately funded service, separate from NHS weight-management programmes. Contact the pharmacy team for information about consultation and ongoing-care charges before booking.
Will I receive a prescription?
Not necessarily. The purpose of the consultation is to assess your needs and discuss appropriate options. The prescriber may recommend a different approach, request further information or investigations, or decide that treatment is not suitable.
Do I need to have diabetes or high blood pressure?
Not in every case. People living with obesity may be suitable for assessment without either diagnosis. For people who are overweight rather than living with obesity, a weight-related health condition will generally be relevant when assessing treatment options.
How long does the programme last?
The duration and review schedule depend on your needs, progress and the plan agreed with your pharmacist. At each review, the pharmacist will assess whether the plan remains appropriate.
How long are appointments?
The first consultation is expected to take approximately 20 minutes. Follow-up appointments are usually shorter. Reviews will normally take place monthly, with the schedule adjusted where clinically appropriate.
Will I need blood tests?
Not everyone will need blood tests. The pharmacist may recommend tests, further information from your GP or another assessment if your history or symptoms suggest an underlying health concern.
What should I bring?
Bring photo identification where possible, your NHS number if known, and details of your current medicines, including medicines bought without a prescription. Tell the pharmacist about previous weight-management treatment and any adverse reactions.
Can I use the service while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Weight-loss treatment will not be started through this service during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell the pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.
Are there risks with treatment?
Treatment options have potential risks and limitations. Before any treatment is agreed, the pharmacist will explain the relevant risks, possible side effects and what to do if you become unwell.
Will my GP be informed?
We will explain how information is used as part of your care and seek your consent to share relevant information with your GP. We may also ask to access relevant health records to support the assessment.
Is the service confidential?
Yes. Consultations take place in a private room and clinical records are stored securely. The pharmacist will explain what information needs to be recorded or shared to support your care.
